Is Now the Time to Create CKO's?Matthew Loxton says When I did my Masters in KM I had been focused on how to fix infuriating operational problems at work, but part of the coursework included Drucker and other luminaries who thundered on about how every firm would have a CKO...but there are still no CKO's inside companies. If 80% of the value of firms is in the IC, then why do we all have a CFO but no CKO?

The moderator for the meeting will be Gordon McConnachie.

Times have changed since Drucker coined the phrase "Knowledge Worker" and Skandia employed the first recorded Chief Knowledge Officer. In fact half a century has passed since Drucker first wrote about knowledge workers and over 20 years since Skandia employed Leif Edvinsson as the first CKO.

Consider these points:

- The proportion value represented by IC has climbed from the upper teens in 1975 to over 80% as of 2010 (Ocean Tomo)
- The rate of technology delivery and acceptance has increased dramatically with more to come (Meeker)
- The trade in IC has become widespread with auctions, defensive purchases, and patent exchanges

I argue that the time has arrived for the role of CKO to jump the chasm from early adopters to mature acceptance.
